THS4130: Extreme Heating up of IC.

Part Number: THS4130

I have a THS4130 used for single ended to differential conversion, the differential signal comes out as a monitoring signal. This is the schematic

The IC gets warmed up pretty fast and gets pretty hot. My signal bandwidth is not more than 100 Hz. Please provide a solution. I have changes the feedback resistors value from a range from 100 ohms to 1k ohms for 1V/1V gain.

I have tried the recommended value. It is still heating.

Hi Binoy,

have you soldered the thermal pad of THS4130 to a copper plane of PCB for improved heat dissipation? With +/-15V supply the chip will dissipate 0.42W!

Hi Binoy,

Were you able to resolve the IC heating issue? Would it be possible for you to measure the steady state supply quiescent current of the device?

I wasnt able to resolve the issue. But I observed that the heating reduces significantly if the gain is less than 0.6

Hi Binoy,

Have you tried to probe the THS4130 output on an oscilloscope and seen any oscillations or sinusoidal signal at the output without any input signal? Also, could you try to see if the IC cools down by removing the C23 and C24 capacitors?

Hi Binoy,

as Rohit already asked for: Can you measure the supply currents of THS4130? If you do not have a current meter, you could insert 10R resistors in the +15V line and -15V line and measure the voltage drop across them.

Can you show us a photo of your setup?
