THS4531: Need to measure 1KV signal

Part Number: THS4531
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THS4541

Hi,

I'm actually working on a project which would require the measurement of a 1KV signal. The signal is a sinus of 13.51MHz. My question, is possible to use a fully differential op-amp, such as THS4531, to attenuate the signal and feed an ADC. I need to compute an RMS value of the signal.

  • Hi Fred,

The THS4531 is a 5V fully differential amplifier which cannot handle 1kV of signal. You need to attenuate your input signal significantly before applying it to the THS4531. Would it be possible for you to implement attenuators at the input in-order to bring the input voltage down to a more respectable +/-5V level?

Also, I would recommend using the THS4541 as this device maintains better linearity performance at 13.51MHz sinusoidal signal compared to the THS4531.

    Best Regards,
    Rohit
