I have a design which utilizes the LM2901D voltage comparator. There are conditions where the one input may go more negative than the GND pin. Will this damage the part if the input current is limited?

The comparator will not be damaged if the current is limited to less than 10mA. However, the output may invert (wrong state) when input(s) are below ground.
