Where can I find further detail on the applications described inte LMP7721 data sheet? I am specifically interested in circuit details for the pulse ion detector and the photodiode transimpedance amplifier.

Thanks for the pointers...

    Hello David,

The circuits are very broad examples.

There are many references for Photodiode Amplifiers. Search TI or Google for "Transimpedance Amplifier" and you will come up with many links. You will know if you found a good reference if it explains how to properly compensate the circuit by calculating the compensation capacitor from the input capacitance.

A starting point is "Compensate Transimpedance Amplifiers Intuitively" and Application Note AN-1803:

As for the Ion Detector - search Google for "Ion Chamber", "Geiger counter"  and "Ion Chamber circuits" - there are many references (A Geiger counter is an ion chamber with a high voltage bias applied to the walls).

Hammatsu also has a good appnotes on the use of various detectors.

    Hope this helps!

Just a comment on the Google search suggestion...

I had been doing that and came up with many circuits that were basically a discrete solution using a FET as a front end and maybe some OpAmps for gain, offset, etc.

In fact I was following a different thread when I happened to stumble on the LMP7721 and was pleasantly surprised to see the two applications of interest shown in the data sheet.

    Thanks
