Photodiode amplifier Evaluation board

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DDC112, LOG114, DDC11XEVM-PDK

Hello, I am looking for an Eval platform that a photodiode can be attached to for measuring the light output of an LED.

Red 530nm, green 630nm, are the LED's that will be used.

Does TI have an Eval platform for photodiodes, or one that can be adapted to such?
Thank you.

  • Ed,

There are many ways to do this, it depends a bit on what kind of output you want.  There is the DDC112 that will measure photodiode current by integrating the charge over a sample period, then converting that to a digital output with an integrated 20bit ADC, and can support two channels.  There is a DDC112 EVM available as an eval platform that might fit your needs.

For an analog output, depending on the photodiode you choose, you can buffer the output with a low input bias current op amp if needed and then into a device like a LOG114, which has "Photodiode Signal Compression Amp" as one of its suggested applications.  There is a LOG114EVM available, which may be a good eval platform like you requested.

  • Ed,

In addition to what Jason suggested I have a PCB which will accept a photodiode with 100 mil lead spacing that includes an op amp in the standard transimpedance amplifier configuration. It's not a TI EVM, but I could send you the board and you could put whatever photodiode and op amp on the board that would meet your needs.

  • Great info team, thank you. I will keep this open until I hear back from the interested party.

  • The customer liked the suggestion of the DDC11xEVM-PDK, so these are being ordered for their test setup.
    Thanks.

  • Ed,

I am the current Apps and characterization engineer for the DDC product line, I learned a lot from Jason. Please let me know if you need anything or if the customer has questions.
