xtr110 change in output current with varied loads

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: XTR110

Hi

I have been experimenting with the xtr110.  I was expecting the output current to remain constant  with different load resistances. This doesn't seen to be the case for myself. Currently I'm using the basic circuit configuration shown in figure 1 of the datasheet in 0-10V  4-20mA mode.

Am I missing something?

  • Hello Stephen,

The output current of the XTR110 should not change greatly with the power supply, and shouldn't change at all with the load until a voltage compliance situation has been reached.

What type of current variation are you experiencing?

Is it possible that this is a voltage compliance issue?  Basically make sure you can fulfull Ohm's law or the proper current can't flow.  This relationship is expressed in the following figure from the XTR110 datasheet, make sure you don't exceed the maximum load resistance based on the supply voltage you're applying. Also, don't forget to include any wiring impedances with the load resistance.

  • Thanks Collin.

I realise now that I had made a fundamental error in my measurements and that the IC was  behaving in the correct manner.

    regards

    Steve

  • Glad you figured it out!
