TLV2371: Output current

Part Number: TLV2371

Hi

On the datasheet, the output current is defined only typical value.

Can you provide the Min value of Positive/Negative at VDD=15V?

Regards,

Koji Hamamoto

  • Koji-san,

The there are limits for the VOH and VOL tests just above the Io test section.
For all VCC only 5mA is specified with tested output voltage.

Clearly a CMOS op amp would provide much more output current at 15V than it can at 2.7V. Figures 7 - 12 in data sheet show this.
A conservative estimate says +/-40mA is achievable considering temperature and process variance.

The bigger concern is self heating. 40mA is about 2V loss for a 80mW power loss. With DBV package(228C/W) gives a 18C rise which is usually fine.
However this is true only at full Vol and Voh output (comparator mode)

If the output is the middle at 7.5V instead then power loss is 7.5V * 40mA = 300mV for an estimated 68C temperature rise which is more troublesome.
  • Hi Ronald-san,

Thank you very much for prompt reply.

I understood how the maximum current and thermal issue can be estimated.

On the other hand, how can we estimate the minimum current of output current?
    (Is that 0mA?)

  • Koji-san,

Output current can be zero. Op amps do not have to have a load to operate.
