LMC6484: Op Amp Absolute maximum input voltage

Part Number: LMC6484

The datasheet states an input voltage range of (V-) - 0.3 to (V+) + 0.3.

The datasheet also states a maximum current at input pin of +/- 5mA and note3 refers "Limiting input pin current is only necessary for input voltages that exceed absolute maximum input voltage ratings."

Does the current limit rating infer that the maximum input voltage can be exceeded as long at the current limit is not exceeded?

Many Thanks

  • Hi Kiran,

When I read the LMC6484 datasheet information that appears to be the inference. Operating the device somewhat beyond an absolute maximum rating doesn't necessarily mean it will be damaged. The LMC6484 datasheet states in Note 1, of Table 6.1 Absolute Maximum Ratings states:

" (1) Stresses beyond those listed under Absolute Maximum Ratings may cause permanent damage to the device. These are stress ratings only, which do not imply functional operation of the device at these or any other conditions beyond those indicated under Recommended Operating Conditions. Exposure to absolute-maximum-rated conditions for extended periods may affect device reliability."
