TPIC2810 Inductive driver

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPIC2810, TPIC6595

Hi, we've been using TPIC6595 etc for driving motors and coils for some time, but we want to use I2C now. We've seen the TPIC2810, but this specifically says "not recommended for switching inductive loads". Can someone please explain why ? The outputs are still diode protected, and appear to be the same, apart from the 100mA rating (more than enough) compared to 250mA. If there is a good reason, is there another I2C part that is suitable ? We're looking at driving small stepper motors (28BYJ-48).

Thanks

Nigel
