Fan did not spin immediately by Fan IC amc6821

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC6821

Hi all,

I use Fan IC amc6821 to control my PWM fan.

I use software DCY mode.

My question is:

When the fan stops, it will need to take about 5 seconds to start spinning after I send PWM to it.

Can I make the fan spin immediately?

Is there any configurations of amc6821 register to improve it?

Thanks if any suggestions.

Ryan

  • Hi Robbert,
Thanks for posting your question to E2E. The appropriate engineer will respond accordingly after reviewing your question.

My immediate thought is to check the Fan Spin-Up configuration. How do you have your [STIME2:STIME0] bits configured? I would recommend setting these bits to '000' for the shortest spin-up time of 0.2s (ensure FSPD is also enabled). Does the fan still take 5 seconds or less to start spinning from a stopped condition? Check page 24 of the datasheet that discusses the spin-up process.
  • Hi Akeem,

    I set [STIME2:STIME0] to 000. The 0x20 register is 0x18.

The fan still needs to take about 5 seconds to start spinning from a stopped condition.

I have checked the PWM was ready immediately, but the fan didn't start to spin at the same time.

I have changed other fans to test, but the result was the same.

Is there any things I need to check?

    Thanks if any suggestion.

  • Robbert,

Are you using the EVM? Can you export the register settings from the GUI so that I can try those settings with our set-up?

    Thanks,
