Hi,

I want to use UART communication, not LIN for PGA450. Would you please provide the required code settings?

In addition, please let me know when we use SPI communication.

The TIDA-00151 UART Demo Firmware for PGA450-Q1 is available on the Software tab of the PGA450-Q1 product page. The TIDA-00151 UART Instructional provides guidelines on how to use this demo firmware. SPI communication is used for debug and development purposes, primarily for use with the PGA450Q1EVM-GUI. Refer to section 7.4.3 RESET of the PGA450-Q1 datasheet to read more about the limitations of the SPI interface.

Yes, the PGA450-Q1 can be controlled by SPI, but with limitations.

Refering to page 56 of the datasheet:
"The PGA450-Q1 does not respond to SPI messages unless the 8051W microprocessor is
in the reset state. The microprocessor can be put in the reset state by writing an
appropriate value to the MICRO RESET test register. The MICRO RESET test register is
the ONLY register that is accessible through the SPI when the 8051W processor is not in
the reset state."

Keep in mind that SPI is primarily intended for development and debugging purposes, thus we recommend using UART or LIN for the simultaneous transfer of raw FIFO data during execution of the TOF firmware. Having to constantly place the 8051W in and out of reset does not allow for the most effecient/fastest mode operation. Does the 2nd Host uC have either of these communication interfaces, or is the customer limited to SPI?

Thank you for the explanation. After all, customer is considering using only SPI since the interface is limited.

Is there any problem if customer wouldn't use UART or LIN for the simultaneous transfer ?

Kato-san,
The customer can use SPI, and leave the UART and LIN pins floating without any complication. There is no problem in this configuration as long as the customer is aware of the aforementioned disadvantages of SPI.

Would it possible to run TOF logic at the external MCU as following way?

- Permanently put 8051 to RESET state and never use 8051.
- Control and drive PGA450 from external MCU through SPI interface to Transmit and Receive sound
- The external MCU read FIFO through SPI and get TOF
