TPS65381-Q1 BIST

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65381-Q1

Hello,

BIST is operated in DIAGNOSTIC state by manual or transition to RESET state automatically.

When a processor want to run BIST, the processor changes state to DIAGNOSTIC state through RSET state.

But TPS65381-Q1 needs to leave ACTIVE sate. What's the recomended controll abouts BIST?

Example, BIST is run once after power-on, or BIST is run periodic after ACTIVE state is left.

  • Hello Iwasaki-san,

The decision when and at what interval to run BIST is application (system) dependent. Our recommendation is that BIST should be run to match the customers application requirements and safety goals. The TPS65381-Q1 runs the BISTs automatically at power up and for most automotive applications this is enough as the total system run time will be limited by the fuel, driver needing to stop for food, etc. For industrial applications that may run for weeks or months between power cycles then diagnostic coverage may be needed and have to be scheduled and run while the application is still powered.

The TPS65381 can run BIST while in Active state, however certain real-time coverage, such as VMON, will not be available during the BIST run time so the end application must take that into account.

These concepts are outlined in ISO26262-1 and other safety standards. In ISO26262-1 these concepts are called diagnostic coverage (1.25), latent multiple-point faults (1.77), multiple-point fault detection interval (1.78). These are not the only sections on this topic, but should give you some key words around the topic.

    Best Regards,
    Scott
