Need specs for the TIDA-00151, "Automotive Ultrasonic Sensor Interface IC for Park Assist or Blind Spot Detection Systems"

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00151

Need specs such as range capability, power consumption, and size. Thanks

  • Hello Richard,

You can find the range capability and power consumption details in the "TIDA-00151 Test Results" document at:
    www.ti.com/.../tidu326.pdf

The tested range capability of the transformer driven closed-top Murata transducer is 20cm to 6m.
The average active power consumption is 10mA.

The size of the TIDA-00151 is 0.582" x 0.925", and provided in the design files download at:
    www.ti.com/.../tidc410
  • Akeem,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I am trying to use the sensor for the purpose of blindspot detection by placing it on the mirror of a car to detect other cars in the "blindspot." While the size and power consumption are desirable, the range is too short for project purposes. Does TI make any sensors that would be of similar specs but longer range, say up to 10m?

    Thanks,

    Richard

  • Richard,

TI does not manufacture sensors, but we have experimented with open-top transducers that are capable of reaching 10m+ for longer range detection. For examples of open-top transducers, we recommend you visit the Murata - Ultrasonic Sensors webpage at: www.murata.com/.../ultrasonic

However, for automotive applications, closed-top transducers are typically more desirable due to their resilience to extreme operating conditions and the enclosures being hermetically sealed (waterproof).

We have had success in getting echo strong reflections from flat surfaces up to 7.2m with the Murata MA58MF14-7N transducer, but have not yet experimented beyond this distance.
  • Thank you so much for your help. I apologize for my constant stream of questions. I have been doing a lot of research because I am trying to build a blindspot detection sensor to clip onto my car mirror. Unfortunately, I haven't yet found a sensor that has my desired range and size specs. I am looking for a sensor that can reach 20-30 feet and that is less than 1 inch by 1 inch. I have looked into both radar and ultrasonic sensors. Is there anything you could recommend? Otherwise, thank you for your assistance.
