    Hi,

The AFE5851 is not supported by the High Speed Data Converters group, but rather is supported by our Medical and High Reliability Group.  After this reply, I will try to split this thread and move this portion of the thread to the HiRel forum.

The Medical group supports the TSW1250 Capture Card, which was derived from the TSW1200.  Same hardware, but slightly different firmware.  The difference is that the TSW1200 does not need to support any data converters that have a frame clock that is 1/2 the sample clock and so the Medical group had to add a modification to the firmware.  In the TSW1200, we look for the low-to-high transition of the Frame Clock to indicate where the serial bits of one sample end and the next sample begins.  For the AFE5851, the Frame Clock is high for one complete sample and then low for one complete sample.  So the firmware had to be modified to look for both the low-to-high locations and the high-to-low transitions of Frame Clock.

So no, the TSW1200 firmware does not support that device without modification.  But it should be a relatively easy modification to my source code or the Medical Group can supply their source code.

    Regards,

    Richard P.

By the way, this response was supposed to be attached to the posting http://e2e.ti.com/support/applications/high_reliability/f/30/t/155852.aspx

But when I split the thread to move the posting to the Medical and High Reliability forum my response to it stayed behind in the High Speed Data Converter forum.

Also, i expect the FMC adapter card *should* be applicable to connect this EVM to the Xilinx development platform since the EVM connects to the TSW1250 which is the same physical hardware as the TSW1200.  But the Medical group would have to comment on this to be sure.

    Regards,

    Richard P.

    Thanks, Richard.

But when I probed the user guides of AFE5851EVM & ADS5282EVM, it appeared to me that the connectors from them are *not* identical.  The connector from ADS5282EVM is similar to the connector in the FMC-ADC adapter, whereas that of AFE5851EVM is *not*.  This is the reason behind my doubt concerning the compatibility of FMC-ADC adapter and AFE5851EVM.

Hope that the Medical group will clarify this issue.  If its compatible, then its well and good.  If not, we would like to know whether TI has got some other adapters for establishing connection between AFE5851EVM & ML605(Virtex6 EVM).

    Regards

    Anand

    Hi,

The AFE5851 EVM belongs to our Medical group and as such i do not have access to its design, but i *did* go look at the User Guide for the AFE5851 which is on the web as literature number SLOU258B at http://www.ti.com/tool/afe5851evm

I think I see the difference that you are noticing.

Prior to the development of the TSW1200 and TSW1250 Capture Cards, there was another FPGA card that just did the deserialization of the sample data and brought the sample data out to posts to be sampled by a logic analyzer.  This deserialization board was called the ADSDeser-50 and the pin assignment on the connector *was* different.

The FMC adapter card is made to bridge from our EVM to the Xilinx Development platform *if* the EVM is made to connect to the TSW1200 or TSW1250.  The AFE5851 EVM was not made to connect to the TSW1250 but rather to the older ADSDeser-50.  So the FMC adapter card would *not* connect to it.

But if you look at figure 27 of the User Guide for the AFE5851 you can see that there was another adapter card made to bridge from the AFE5851 EVM to the TSW1250.  This additional adapter bridges from the older Samtec connector pin assignment to the newer one and you would get this adapter card from our Medical and HiRel group.  It might even come with the AFE5851 EVM whenpurchased - i don't know.   But the FMC adapter card *would* bridge from this other adapter card into the Xilinx development platform.  So it would be EVM to adapter card to FMC adapter card to ML605.

For the ADS5282 EVM it would be just EVM to FMC adapter card to ML605.

For more information than this, i will have to let the Medical group take it from here.

    Regards,

    Richard P.

    Hi,

In the 'AFE5851EVM kit contents' (pg 4 of AFE5851EVM User Guide), it says that an AFE/TSW Adapter board is included.  I hope that this will take care of the bridging issue (of connecting AFE5851EVM with ML605).  But a confirmation will be appreciated.

We've already ordered for an AFE5851EVM.  If any adapter boards are needed for connecting AFE5851EVM with ML605 we would like to order it as soon as possible.  This will help us avoid unnecessary delay in testing.

By the way, Richards, the block diagram of TSW1200 which you shared in http://e2e.ti.com/support/data_converters/high_speed_data_converters/f/68/t/47555.aspx  was helpful for me in designing an interface for AFE5851.  Thanks.

    Regards

    Anand

    Xu,

We received the AFE5851EVM.  But there was no AFE/TSW adapter included in it!!  Do we have to pay any additional bill for this board?

    Regards

    Anand

    Xu,

Can you kindly give your mail-id?  I'll send my company address to you.

Please note that we will not be using TSW1250EVM.  We're planning to use AFE5851EVM together with ML605(Virtex-6 EV kit).  I hope that the AFE5851EVM can be connected to the ML605 by means of this AFE/TSW connector.  If it's not possible, there is no need of sending it.

    Thanks & Regards

    Anand

    Hi,

I have to connect the AFE5851 EVM to a SP605 (spartan 6). I tried to connect them with the fmc-adc adapter but it doesn't work, because the evm has a 80pins connector instead the fmc-adc adapter has 120 pins connector.

So, when I read this post I don't understand if I can connect the two board or not using the connector of the TSW1250 Capture Card. Anyone resolve this problem?

    I'm waiting for your reply,

    regards.

    Rino
