Hello,

I'm currently working on developing a reflective pulse oximeter using the AFE4490. I also have the AFE4490EVM.

I noticed that TI has tested several reflective sensor packages such as the DCM03, the SFH7050, and NJL5310R.

Is there anywhere I can purchase or acquire these sensor boards? I've tried searching online, but could not find any.

I'm particularly interested in the DCM03, since it looks like you were able to obtain good results.

Do you recommend the DCM03 for reflective pulse oximetry? I need to calculate % oxygen saturation.

Also, is there any benefit to using the DCM03 vs using my own sensor made up of a standard photodiode, red led, and ir led?

Hello Mohammad,

We have seen some of our customers use DCM03 in reflective pulse oximetry applications.

We will not be able to recommend any specific sensor as the performance of the sensor is dependent on other factors like mechanical setup, measurement site etc.

DCM03 has the following features:

1. Larger photodiode area resulting in larger signal current.

2. Designed with optimum separation distance between LED and photodiode.

3. Built-in Optical barrier / isolator between LED and photodiode to avoid crosstalk between them.

The AFE44x0 users guide found on our product fold has a table (Table 6) that shows the connections required if you want to use your own sensor. It only supports H-bridge configuration. To support push-pull (common anode) configuration you can blue wire using the extra unused pins to connect LED_DRV_SUP to external common anode supply.
