Auestions about AFE4403

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1292R, AM3354, AFE4403

hi, I am working on some health project and already choose TI AFE4403+ADS1292R+AM3354.  after reading your datasheets,   I have some questions  shown below.

1.    I understand  AFE4403 support measuring  heart rate and blood oxygen at same time with three LED drivers, how AFE 4403 pins connect with Osram SFH7050?

2    in case i use NJL5310R (heart Rate) and NJL 5510R(spO2) connect with AFE 4403, how to connect the pins?  as there are two PD in each NJL chip and 4 LEDs?

  • Hello,

    Regarding your questions about AFE4403,

    1. The AFE4403 connections to the OSRAM SFH7050 optical sensor is shown in the AFE4403 Users guide (Section 8 and Figure 43). (link below)

    2. Could you explain the application use case? Do you plan to measure heart rate and SpO2 simultaneously?
It is not possible to directly connect the two sensors to the AFE for simultaneous HR and SpO2 measurement.
The sensors can be multiplexed using a dual analog switch for non-simultaneous HR and SpO2 measurement.

    Regards
    Praveen.
  • Thanks for your answer, to confirm, so only in the scenario of AFE4403 connections to the OSRAM SFH7050, it can measure heart rate and SpO2 simultaneously, right?
  • Irrespective of the optical sensors, the third LED support is intended as a static mode selection as opposed to a dynamic mode selection. A typical time delay of approximately 20 ms is required for the receive channel to settle after a change to the TX3_MODE setting. During this transition time, the receive signal chain should be active so that the filters are able to settle to the new signal level from the third LED.
