TPS7A4501-SP: Minimum load current?

Part Number: TPS7A4501-SP

Does the TPS7A4501-SP have a minimum load current for stable regulation?  I noticed some of the regulation parameters in the data sheet are spec'd with a minimum of 1 mA under the test conditions.

  • Hi Mark,

TPS7A4501-SP does not require a min load current for stable regulation. In datasheet electrical characteristics are specified for specific test conditions. i.e. dropout voltage or line and load conditions. It is a standard practice to highlight performance / characteristics for specific test conditions so that performance can be validated.
  • Hi Mark,

I wanted to follow up on your question with regards to min load current. It is true that TPS7A4501-SP does not require min load current. However per our previous discussion on compensation guidance. Once you start to evaluate stability and acceptable phase margin for your system. You may reach a conclusion that min load current is necessary to ensure acceptable phase margin depending upon your load conditions.
