Need Suggestion For Parts Finalization For Medical Product

Hello,

We are going to design wearable product which can wear on hand only. This product is going to measure Heart Rate Value, Oxygen Content Value, Respiration Rate Value and Blood Pressure Value. We have found the solutions from TI parts exploration for Heart Rate and Oxygen Content. We found that AFE4404 chip can measure Heart Rate and Oxygen Content value. I have below queries regarding Parts Finalization.

1) Can you please suggest us other good options than AFE4404 for Heart Rate and Oxygen Content measurement?

2) Can you please suggest any options for Respiration Rate and Blood Pressure measurement?

3) Is it possible to measure Respiration Rate and Blood Pressure by using AFE4404 chip?

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help.

    Other devices in our portfolio for heart rate and oxygen saturation measurements would be AFE4405, AFE4410.
    Please note that both these devices require NDA.
    None of the above devices including AFE4404 support respiration rate and blood pressure measurement.

    For respiration rate measurement, ADS1292R is an option you may want to consider. Please refer to the ADS1292R product datasheet and the application note (www.ti.com/.../sbaa181.pdf) for more details.

    Currently we do not have any dedicated analog front end chip for blood pressure measurement.

    Thanks for your kind response and suggestion.

    We will look into and explore more on AFE4405 and AFE4410.

    Regarding blood pressure measurement. We are exploring on your suggested link.

    Regarding Respiration rate. I have looked into the application note and referred some diagrams. From diagrams, it looks like ADS1292R is used for the device which can attached on chest. We are planning to develop wearable device which can wear on Wrist. Do we use this chip for our product?

    Hello Nipam,

    The only way that I am aware of measuring respiration rate is by measuring the impedance change across the chest. Is there another clinically acceptable method for doing this? It may be possible to measure across the chest by reaching over to the wrist with the other hand to the device, but I have never heard of this being done previously.

    I don't know about the other method. I was thinking that it might be possible by measuring PPG signal. If it is possible then we can go further for wearable product development.

    Hello Nipam,

    Unfortunately my expertise is in the electronics aspect of healthcare technology, so I don't want to speculate as to the clinical aspects of the different vital signs. Generally our customers only use PPG to measure heart rate, and the ADS1292R uses chest impedance measurement to do respiration rate detection, so this is not viable for your product. A quick google search yielded some results discussing how PPG might be able to be used to measure respiration rate, but I have personally never heard of TI products being used for this purpose.

    That is not to say it is not possible - perhaps you are the innovator that figures out how to use it and productize it!
