Does BLDC for motors support various motors?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8312, DRV8302, INSTASPIN-BLDC

Hi everyone

I am new here, I want to know if BLDC board by TI supports my motor, the model type is 35ZWN/37JB http://www.linixmotor.com/3-BLDC-motor.html, it has 18V and 2W for normal use.

Moreover, is there any board that can drive two motors at the same time??

Thanks

Yuefan

  • Yuefan,

We do have a kit that can drive 2x BLDC motors at the same time.  Please see below:

Other kits that are a better fit in terms of current needs are listed below:

  • Ryan,

    thank you for your reply

but I am now using BLDC, is it fine to use drv8312?

  • and more, besides the one you gave me, is there any better one which can drive two BLDCs? thanks

  • Yuefan,

What I provided is all we have and yes, the DRV8312-C2-Kit will work great with your motor.

  • Hi Ryan,

I have another question, now we are driving two motors in 18V 2W , we have options either to buy two BLDC KITs (not sensorless) or to have a one board to support both of them. But now it seems the board you suggest me to use is not a sensor based(No Hall sensor feedback). If we buy two boards, then we will have two MCUs to control the motors separately. The ideal board we need to have is one MCU controls two motors (not sensor less).

Do you have any idea about how  we can use two BLDC boards while they are controlled by only one MCU of either of them?

    Thanks

  • The 2MTRPFCKIT allows for one MCU to control both power stages.

However, the DRV8402 devices on this kit can not do true BLDC (2-ph on, 1-ph off) control, they can only do 3-ph always on sine control.

If you want to do 2x true BLDC trapezoidal control you need to use DRV8312.

You can actually use two DRV8312 baseboards I believe for this....all the pins are brought out to a header, so I think it's possible you could wire over from one board to the other the PWM, I/O, and ADC pins needed to control the 2nd DRV8312.  Messy though.

We have just started a new 2MTR kit that will use DRV8302 + TI NexFETs.  It will be a 24V ~10A system and should be available in June.

  • Hi Chris

What about RDK-BLDC KIT, can I use two boards of this and do what you said, wire them together? What do you suggest me to choice between RDK-BLDC and DRV8312?

    Thanks

  • I do not recommend the RDK-BLDC kit. I don't like the SW or technique used.

The ideal solution for you would be the new 2MTR kit we are working on , but that's a few months away. Since you have a DRV8312 kit I'd see what kind of luck you could have at wiring the signals from one header to another to implement another instance of InstaSPIN-BLDC+DRV8312.  I know with the Piccolo F28035 controlCARD you won't have an issue with having enough signals.
