DRV8432 - Question on Overcurrent Protection

    I am configuring the DRV832 in a design for differential operations on two motors.  For each of these motors, I want to limit the total current to 6A (neither motor should be limited to 6A).  I'm assuming I can set the OC resistor to between 43-47k and this will limit either motor from going over the 6A threshold.  Is that a correct assumption?

    Does OC protection at a certain amperage apply to both full-bridges individually or does it apply to the entire motor controller unit?

    Hi John,

    The current limiting and overcurrent protection functions on the DRV8432 are independent for each half-bridge.

    In the application you've described your assumption is correct - choosing the resistor between 43-47K would current - limit the output of each bridge to 6A. However, since the limiting circuitry is independent for each bridge, a total of 12A is possible through the device (6A through each motor) if, for instance, both motors were to stall at the same time.
