Hall Sensor with DRV5013

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV5013

Hi -

I want to develop a hall sensor using the DRV5013 - but I'm new to this and don't know the full details of how to develop it.

I have the DRV5013, which has one of it's legs as an output. The leg provides a voltage output that is a measure of the magnetic field measured by the sensor. However I can't find any information relating that output to the strength of the field (in T or mT).

I am sure I am missing something simple - any suggestions?

  • Hi Yogi,

I will try to move your post to the Motor Drivers forum, as we support this device.

The DRV5013 has an open drain output, requiring a pullup resistor to provide a logic high voltage. The output will be either a logic high or logic low depending on the magnetic field present.

Please refer to Section 8 of the DRV5013 datasheet for operation, and section 7.7 for the magnetic characteristics.

  • Yogi, here's how it works.  If a magnetic-south pole faces the top of the device, with a flux density of greater than BOP, then the open-drain output pulls Low.  It will continue pulling Low until the magnetic field is reversed: with a magnetic north pole facing the top of the package, applying greater than |BRP|, the DRV5013 output becomes High-Z.

    Best regards,
    RE
