DRV8802 Inrush Current Protection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8814, DRV8802

Hi,

Could TI helps to clarify the "Inrush Current Protection" additional feature of DRV8802 mentioned on the parametric table comparison between DRV8802 and DRV8814 found on the DRV8802 product page?We could not find any information on in the datasheet so we would like to:

1. Know more about this additional feature

2. Does this feature has any impact on ESD.

Thanks in advance.

  • Weiren,

Inrush current protection functionality in both chips are excatly same, current in motor windingis controlled by a fixed-frequency 50kHz PWM, as explained in detail in both data-sheets.

The difference between the two is maximum current level setting. Overcurrent protection trip level in DRV8802 is 1.8Amp whereas in DRV8814 it is 3Amp. So, inrush current limit can be set below these values based on forumula given in data-sheet.

I do not think this feature has any impact of ESD.

  • Hi Weiren

Let me check the detailed difference between DRV8802 and DRV8814 on this feature. Will get back later.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Wilson,

    Good day to you.

Sorry, may I check with you, do you have any update on this? Thanks for your help and support.

  • Hi Weiren

Sorry for keep you waiting. Just like Milan's reply, we have no special difference on the inrush current control of DRV8802 and DRV8814. Sorry for the confuse bring from the comparing table, it should be some problem on the automatic comparing function of the website.

Thank you for bring this issue to us and we will try to fix it in future.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Wilson and Milan,
