DRV8312 failed? Cannot re-connect...

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8312, CONTROLSUITE

I have a DRV8312.  It was working fine, and I connected some digital probes to the Hall sensor lines, after which the drive stopped working.

The base board LED1 and LED3 lights are green, but LED2 is OFF.  On the control board, LD4 is lit green, but the red flashing light no longer appears.  I cannot re-connect, and therefore re-flash.  Is there a way to get this board working again?

  • Hi Ken,

I am assuming you have the schematics to the board. If you do not, they are available through ControlSuite.

LED2 is critical for operation. It is GVDD, which is regulated down to create +5V, +3.3V, and +2.5V. Without GVDD, the board does not operate properly.

  • Is it safe to say that this board is toast?  Why would connecting digital leads to Hall A, B, and C and GND cause this problem?

  • Ken, it should be no problem to connect high-impedance probes to Hall signals.  I have no way of knowing what happened in your case, but maybe the probe inadvertently shorted 2 adjacent pins for a moment.

If you can isolate the failure to one component (e.g. a regulator), you could potentially order a sample of that IC and rework it.

    Best regards,
    RE
