DRV8307 Hall senser pull-up voltage

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8307, DRV8308

Hi

  My customer is using DRV8307.

He want to design that it is user 5V voltage supply for hall censer pull-up without VREG or VSW.

Is this idea possible?  I think no problem.

  Could  you advice me?

Best regards

Shimizu

  • Hi Shimizu

Is there any reason that customer don't use VREG or VSW?

It should be fine with external Hall supply but still we need to confirm and get back to you later.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Wilson

     Thank for your support.

Reason of not using VREG or VSW is heat.

Competition product doesn't have internal regulator.

-> There is logic Vcc and  VM.

I want to say my customer that it doesn't use VREG or VSW for preventing heat-up than compe.

The heat is very important for my customer .

    Thanks

    Shimizu

  • Wilson is correct. External 5V is ok. A common GND must be used, and the differential Hall inputs must see a differential voltage swing.

  • Shimizu-san, please note that the Hall input pins have an absolute max voltage of VREG.  VREG = 5V if the DRV8308 is powered and Enabled (unless register VREG_EN is set).  As Wilson pointed out, please be careful with power sequencing, so that the 5V pullup isn't present before VREG.

You can use an EVM and remove R3, R4, R5 to connect an external 5V if you want to experiment.
