BeagleBone Black used to drive DRV8312or any of the DRV83xx drivers

I have been looking into using the BBB for several different applications. I see that it is very capable driving steppers and DC motors and IO in general. I am now trying to understand if we could use it to drive Brushless DC servo motors (with encoder feedback) in conjunction with the DRV8312or any of the DRV83xx drivers. In this case the BBB would be the motion controller – sending PWMs out to the DRV83xx and closing the loop by calculating position based on the encoder feedback.

I am not familiar with this product line and need to understand what its capabilities are in terms of hardware and software:

Is this doable?

How many axis could I control with one BBB?

Could I use more than one axis per BBB?

Any concerns with motor configurations and tuning?

Is there another low cost solution from TI that I should be looking into?
