what parameters effect DRV10983 maximum commutation frequency

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV10983

HI,

Can any one tell which parameters effect the commutation frequency?the motor which comes with DRV10983 EVM speed around 360Hz,and in datasheet max it is up to 1kHz ,so how can i increase the frequency more than 360Hz?

i searched for the datasheet of the motor which comes with EVM but i didn't get  pl provide me the link to the datasheet of the motor (ZWL12-22-2.5I)?

Thank you

  • Hi Shruthi,

We will contact the expert on this device regarding your first question.

The datasheet for the motor can be located in the Hardware Files of the EVM folder ( LINK )

  • Thank you very much, waiting for the first question to be verified
  • Shurti,

The back-emf or velocity constant defines the maximum commutation frequency for given motor.

For example, Runtian motor comes with kit has veloctiy constant of 55mV/Hz, this means at 12Volt, it can reach 218Hz. This is theoritical max no-load freqeuncy, becuase once motor is loaded, its draws current and  current creates drop across stator impedance and actual voltage available for back-emf reduces.

  • Thank you for the response .
so in that case our motor has 500mV/Hz as velocity constant, now maximum it can reach up to 48Hz theoretically right ?i have calculated the motor velocity constant by following the guidelines from tuning guide ,with load.and also practically it is not increasing beyond 46/47Hz.
in this case how can i improve the speed ,by increasing input voltage?or should i change the motor design?
    currently am keeping 24V,1.5A current.16 poles,18 slots,star configuration.

    Thank you
  • Shruthi,

Yes that's right , at 24volt no-load it will reach 48Hz. But will load there would be drop across stator resistance-inductance which will limit to reach at 48Hz.

    There are two ways:

    1. increase the voltage but DRV10983 has limitation don't go beyond 28Volt. I'm sure with this you will be able to reach 48Hz at around 26Volt or so.

    2. If not than the other way is to reduce stator resistance, meaning motor design change with more copper.
