DRV8432 Fault issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8432EVM

Hi,

We are using a DRV8432 to drive 2 DC motors. It works succesfully but with this limitation: after powering the board (being it unpowered for several minutes) the driver detects a fault condition (Fault pin low) and the only way to get the motors spinning is by touching (with a naked finger) some ground point. Once they are working, touching gnd isn't needed anymore.

This is the setup:

- PVVD=GVVD = 12V

- PWM frequency: 20kHz

- Bootstrap capacitors: 100nF

- OC_ADJ resistor: 22k (the lowest value specificed in the datasheet)

- 220nH inductor in series with each motor

The motors are relatively low current, and the driver doesn't heat a bit when running.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Martín.

  • Hi Martin,

We have not heard of this type of behavior. ?

Can you answer a few questions?

Does the fault condition appear during power up?
What is the state of the OTW?
What is the state of the inputs during power up?
Is this a DRV8432EVM? If not can you provide a schematic?
What Mode is being run (M3, M2, M1 settings)?
Does any ground point work or a specific ground point?
