DRV593 EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV593EVM, DRV593

I am driving a TEC with the DRV593 Evaluation module. This TEC draws 0.9A at 5V when driven directly via a PSU. But through the DRV593EVM I am getting a max of 0.45A. The voltage across the TEC is driven to maximum achieve 5V across it. Does anybody know why this is happening. My input drive level is at 0V (max drive) therefore I would expect full current through the TEC (except small losses in the FET and filter)? Is there some sort of limiting going on? I know that the evaluation module is capable of up-to 3A.

  • Hi,

Our experts have been notified and should reply soon.
  • Hi, Aby,

The EVM is configured in single ended operation having the negative input IN- set to VDD/2. As this mid-rail voltage is used, you may need to increase the input level on IN+ to increase the PWM cycle (thus output voltage). Refer to Application information section of the datasheet to find more information on the PWM cycle when the device is configured in Cooling mode.

  • Hi Diego,

Thanks for the reply. I realise that the IN- is at VDD/2 and driving the IN+ above or below that will drive the Peltier cool or heat. My problem is that with that configuration and the IN+ at 0V I should be driving the peltier with the maximum power. The voltage across the peltier measures 5V. The current through peltier is only 0.45A.

BUT if I drive the peltier direct from a PSU at 5V the current through it is about 0.9A. This is my problem Why is the DRV593 not driving the peltier with its maximum current draw?

    Cheers,

  • Hi All,

This problem has now been resolved. Operator error! The way I was measuring current was incorrect! Thanks for the assistance anyway.

    Abdul.
