DRV8307 To prevent hunting motor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8307EVM, DRV8307

Hi,

My cutomer is using DRV8307EVM with customer motor.
This motor is operated at EVM.
But motor is hunting, and speed can not be up even if PWM duty is up.
Please see the attached file.
This is waveform of U phase.

His motor characteristic and condition is below.
- Poles is 12 poles.
- Torque constant is 24 mN/m/A
- Motor indactance is 4 mH
- VM is 18V
- OC setting is default of EVM(5A).

What should we changing of DRV8307 setting to prevent hunting motor?

Best regards,
Shimizu

  • Hi Shimizu-san,

We will investigate and reply soon.
  • Hi Shimizu-san,

Is the customer sure the Motor Phases and Hall Sensor connections are correct?  If one of the hall signals is incorrectly connected to the driver the motor will not spin and hum as you mentioned.

  • Hi Phil,

    Thank you for your support.

I confirm about your comment to customer.
And I add a question about EVM setting.

Customer is using single-end output hall-sensor.

At EVM, There are two setting of JP3. It is "normal" and "inverse".
What is the difference of "normal" and "inverse"?

    Best regards,
    Shimizu
  • Hi Phil,

     Thank you for your support.

     This issue is resolved.

Customer changed JP3 from normal to inverse. then, motor operated normally.

Could you answer me previous my question?

    Best regards,

    Shimizu

  • Hi Shimizu-san,

Apologize for the delay.  The normal or inverse modes on the EVM are to allow for different types of Hall Senor inputs.  Some Hall ICs are active low when a north pole is present in front of the package, others are active low when a south pole is present in front of the package.  In order for the EVM to operate with both types of Hall IC's we use a series of line selectors to invert the hall signals sent to the DRV8307.

To Implement Polarity Inversion in your customers final solution, the Hall IC signals from the motor should be connected to the HU- / HV- / HW- pins of the DRV8307and the HU+ / HV+ / HW+ pins should be biased to 2 Volts.
