DRV10866 Stop driving motor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV10866, DRV10964, DRV10963

Hi,

My customer is using DRV10866.
He has a problem.
DRV10866 stops to drive motor suddenly.
Please see the following picture.
(Vcc = 5V)

After stoping driving, DRV10866 can drive normally by system reset soon.
For the reason, I think the cause is not TSD.
Could you give me advice about the cause, please?

Best regards,
Shimizu

  • Hi Shimizu-san,

Our experts have been contacted and should reply soon.
  • Hi Shimizu-san,

At what speed does DRV109866 stop driving motor ? DRV10866 device has problem of false detection of lock at certain frequency of FG, please see this document http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slva612/slva612.pdf

  • Hi Krushal-san,

    Thank you for your support.
    Motor speed is 490~510Hz.
    This is FG signal frequency.
    Customer connects FGS and GND.

Does this condition apply to problem of false detection of lock?

    Best regards,
    Shimizu
  • Hi Shimizu-san,

False lock detection occurs at 101.6 Hz and multiple of this frequency, so it seems like motor speed of 490-500 Hz falls within this range.

I would recommend to pull high FGS pin ( Connect to VCC) and see if this problem gets resolved.

  • Hi Krushal-san,

    Thank you for your support.

    I add questions.

Q1:Does this workaround effective to all DRV10866?
and Is this workaround the opinion include condition of temperature range and individual difference of IC?

-> If this workaround is not include, Could you let me know complete workaround, plsease?

Q2:Do you have the plan of product like DRV10866 which has more high speed sampling clock?

    Best regards,
    Shimizu

  • Hi Shimizu-san,

    Please see my response below:

[KS] Work around should work under all condition in your case because FG will be around 250 Hz ( half of 500) and it is not multiple of 101.6 Hz

Q2:Do you have the plan of product like DRV10866 which has more high speed sampling clock?

[KS] We have already released next version of this device - DRV10963/DRV10964, both of these parts work around voltage range as DRV10866 and have sensorless 180 degree sinusoidal commutation.

  • Hi Krushal-san,

    Thank you for your support.

I think that the internal sampling frequency changes by temperature and for each DRV10866.

Q1: When die temp is up, Is sampling frequency speed up or down?

Q2: I think the error range is ±30% from application note.
    Is it correct?
    -> Max:132.08Hz Min:71.12Hz

    Best regards,
    Shimizu
  • Hi Krushal-san,

    How is the progress?
I must explain about the detail of this issue and the validity of workaround.
Customer has this issue at their mass product.
