DRV110: Protection function for DRV110

Part Number: DRV110
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8885, DRV120

Hi, expart.

Please teach me about protetion function for DRV110.
  – Thermal Shutdown
  – Undervoltage Lockout (UVLO)
  – Maximum Ramp Time
  – Optional STATUS Output
What behavior deos it do?

Unlike DRV8885, DRV110 has no built-in FET.
What's the point of protecting the internal parts of DRV110?
In the case of DRV8885,integrated FET is getting hot.
So DRV8885's protection function is very important.

Best regards.
Ryuji

  • Hi Ryuji,

Our experts have been contacted and should reply soon.
  • Hello Ryuji,

    • Thermal Shutdown:
      • at 160C the DRV110 will shut down, and the STATUS pin will float.
      • Once the temperature drops back to 140C, the DRV110 will resume operation and the STATUS pin will pull down.
      • Thermal shutdown may have been added for the DRV110 so it would be available on future products that leverage the same design, like the DRV120 which has an internal FET.
    • UVLO
      • When the voltage at VIN is lower than 4.6 V the DRV110 will shut down, and the STATUS pin will float.
      • When VIN rises above 4.6 V, the DRV110 will resume operation and the STATUS pin will pull down.
    • Maximum ramp time is not a protection feature. We will remove this from the front page in the next datasheet update
    • STATUS output:
    • Putting a pull-up resistor on the STATUS pin allows it to be read by a GPIO pin
    • The STATUS pin will float when the DRV110 is in UVLO, temperature shutdown, or EN = LOW
    • The STATUS pin pulls down to ground when the part is in normal operation (EN = 1)
