CCS/DRV3205EVM: the EVM didn't work

Part Number: DRV3205EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL2-TMS57012, , DRV3205-Q1

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

We tested the DRV3205EVM with LAUNCHXL2-TMS57012 LaunchPad(the software is drv3205-drv3205evm.7z), but found that:

  1. The power supply part of DRV3205 is ok;
  2. No SPI communication(No CLK signal);
  3. No PWM signal between MCU and DRV3205.

Could you check it what is the problem or tell us how to use this demo software?

Thank you!

  • Hi Saijun,

    Can you provide some additional information?

    Have you watched the Programming the DRV3205-Q1 automotive gate driver EVM? The video can be found at the bottom of the page: www.ti.com/.../DRV3205EVM
  • Dear Rick,

    We found that one GUI on PC was used in your video after we watched your video.

    But now we don't have it, so could you send it to me(zhengsj@cnlbn.com)?

    Thank you!

    Best Regards,

    Saijun Zheng

  • Hi Saijun,

    I've granted you access to the DRV3205 EVM files on mySecure software, please download the latest versions of the GUI and firmware for the TMS570LS12 Launchpad from there.

    Please let me know if this solves the issue, or if you are still unable to get the EVM to work.

  • Dear Garrett,

    Thank you for your information!

    We checked the demo software, but found that it is for BLDC motor.

    Our motor is PMSM and we have the demo software(drv3205-drv3205evm.7z)for it.

    Does it need the GUI too?

    Because we found one 'mdbuserial' module in its sub directory 'lib'.

    Could you provide the related files and documents to me?

    Thank you again!

    Best Regards,

    Saijun Zheng

  • Hi Saijun,

    Thank you for the clarification about your motor, we usually provide trapezoidal code since BLDC motors are more commonly used.

    I have granted you access to another folder in mySecure software with the GUI, FW, and User's Guide for the FOC code for the DRV3205 EVM. Please use these files instead, and let me know if you have any further issues.

    Thanks,
    Garrett
  • Dear Garrett,

    We tried it and found that:

    1.It works in the open loop when the RPM is about 150;

    2.It works in the torque control when the RPM is about 300;

    3.It is unstable in the speed control.

    So we want to know if we spin a new PMSM, which parameters for the motor should be updated in the source code.

    Could you share some hints to spin the new motor too?

    Thank you!

    Best Regards,

    Saijun Zheng

  • Hi Saijun,

    We're looping in our software/MCU experts on this thread, but I wanted to let you know that we uploaded a new version of the DRV3205 FOC code last week to fix some bugs in the prior version. Could you please re-download the new versions so that our team can support you based on the most recent code?

    Thanks,
    Garrett
