DRV8703-Q1EVM: Regarding interface with external micro

Part Number: DRV8703-Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430G2553

Hai,

We are using DRV870-Q1EVM to drive a 12v DC motor with an external Micro via SPI.

Would like to know if it is possible to interface an external micro to DRV870-Q1EVM through the 14 pin interface provided at the top board? Will the micro MSP430G2553 which is on board interfere the SPI comm from external micro?

And what is the range of PWM period supported by device when it is operating at MODE-3 (Standard PWM Control Interface)?

  • Hi Kallepalli,

Yes, is is possible to interface an external micro. To do so remove the resistors between the MSP430G2553 and the 14 pin interface.

The EVM schematic is available on line to determine the resistors to remove.

The recommended max PWM frequency is 100kHz per the datasheet. The maximum PWM frequency may be not be achievable depending on the FETs used and the idrive settings.
