Linux: Ethernet controlled Motors Drive

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMIC110

Tool/software: Linux

Hi TI Techie,

I am looking for motor drive/amplifier to control the motor (any volt spec). Here is my basic requirement for selecting the motor drive.

1. The interface between motor drive and the master control unit or processor should be Ethernet. (Modbus-TCP or Ethernet/IP). So that drive can controlled from any where in the network so that motor.

2. Software support for the Linux platform to communicate/control the motor drive.

Please suggest the motor drive that can meet the above requirement.

As per motor prospective we can go for any kind of servo motor.

Note : New in this era, so if above requirement is missing something, please let me know.

  • Hi Ashutosh,

There are a few approaches that I might recommend:

    1. C2000 + AMIC110
    2. Sitara processor

The Sitara/AMIC110 processor would run your Linux OS & fulfill your Ethernet needs.  If using a Sitara AM3x/5x, it may or may not also be able to meet your servo control need.  It really depends on the specifications you have for the servo motor control.

Note that the control of a servo motor can be a complex thing, so I suspect you'll need to define better requirements.

For more on C2000, see http://www.ti.com/c2000

The Sitara (& AMIC110) forum will have more information to provide on that series of devices.

    Thank you,
    Brett
