DRV8860EVM: Controlling the DRV8860 EVM via USB from labview

I would like to control the DRV8860 EVM using labview. I see that the EVM comes with an executable that looks like it is built on labview. Could you provide the source code for this executable. We were hoping to shorten our prototyping time using the EVM. Could you suggest a way to control the .exe from labview? I feel that may not be as trivial as it sounds.

If you are requesting the source code for the loaded on the EVM, it can be found here: www.ti.com/.../slvc596

The Hardware files in the folder www.ti.com/.../DRV8860EVM contains the firmware and board information.

Hi Rick,

I looked through the link you sent me for the source code. www.ti.com/.../slvc596. It contains PCB design files and firmware files. But I was wondering if you had the labview project or source code for the GUI that you provide along with the EVM. It would shorten our labview development time if you could provide us the labview code. It looks like the GUI was coded in labview.

Hi Rick,

I guess you cannot provide us the GUI source code for liability reasons.

Could you point me to information on the COM port commands that would need to be sent in order to write to the control and data registers of the DRV 8860 via USB So we may develop our own LabVIEW code?

Hi Nagaraj.,

We have recommended using a USB sniffer to read the commands to the FTDI USB/UART device.

As an example please see e2e.ti.com/.../530078

The FTDI device converts the USB command to UART command that is interpreted by the MSP430. The source code for the MSP430 is available on line.

So with some effort, LabVIEW code can be developed.
