WEBENCH® Tools/PMP10921: BQ24600 Charger for Single Cell

Part Number: PMP10921
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24600, BQ24600EVM, BQ25910

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello Gurus ,

I am trying to build a charger which could charge my Li-ion 5300mah battery with 2C charge rate.

I have currently selected 5V 10A SMPS as a adapter source.

The reference design PMP10921  is designed for 3 Cell series stack and being new to power electronics , I would like to know if 2C(~10A) charging would be feasible design with BQ24600 ?

If I use MSP430 instead of BQ24600 will my charge time reduce because we don't have charge time optimizer in MSP code.

Also as I am going to have huge quantity, could I get any TI members contact to discuss on costing and technical support for product.

Thanks a lot.

  • The bq24600 is a multicell charger which charge current can be up to 10 A. It is a standalone charger which does autonomous charge  cycle without the need of external control. Please refer to the datasheet and the bq24600EVM for reference.

  • Chirag, thanks for the information. Please contact Eric Zhao (q-zhao@ti.com) to discuss your detailed charger requirement? TI has dual charger architectures (main charger + parallel charger) to achieve high rating charging. The charging current depends on the board size and the thermal requirements. One possibility is the bq25910, which is going to RTM this quarter.

We also have a switching cap 8A charger which could be an candidate http://www.ti.com/product/BQ25970
