We are developing an EMG muscle sensor based booster pack for the Stellaris LaunchPad.
The BoosterPack enables developers to interpret muscle voltages for interaction with fun and functional applications.
The TI FlexPack booster pack utilizes Texas Instrument's INA126 instrumentation amplifiers and TL084 operation amplifiers to convert an EMG signal generated from muscles in the human body to a microcontroller-friendly voltage. There are four key steps in conditioning the raw EMG signal from the electrodes. The first step is the amplify the EMG signal (5-500Hz, 50uV-30mV) and remove common mode noise with the INA126 instrumentation amplifier. Next the EMG signal is full-wave rectified per the Standard for Reporting EMG Data guide by Dr. Roberto Merletti.After rectification, the signal is sent through an active low-pass filter to smooth it to a steady voltage. Finally, the smoothed signal is gained up with an inverting amplifier which is adjustable with a 50k potentiometer.
