Linux: Framebuffer display initialistion & boot animation on startup in VID1 pipeline

Hello all,

On boot up we would like to show “boot logo animation ” in VID1 pipeline. We cannot able to do in our bootloader (IPL). We like to do in kernel.

HMI will be running on top of GFX.

IS it possible to do it on VID1 pieline on bootup ?

Do you have any sample code to do the same ?

Do you need a boot animation or a splash screen?

For Splash screens, you can use this document:

For animation, you will need to monitor the VSYNC and update buffers for every frame. You will not be able to do that in kernel boot, as interrupts and task schedulers are disabled

Hi Subhajit,

We want to show the splash screen before weston comes up, using drm application . We are not using U-boot. We are using IPL boot loader. Is it possible from linux drm ?

In DRM you cannot run 2 applications which will use display simultaneously. So you can show splash screen, and then kill it, and start weston. You will see a blank screen for the transition time
