How do you debug the kernel code executed before the machine is initialized : before init_machine() is called?

The case:

I see on my board that one of the GPIO's state change. (this is GPIO0_6, to be specific).

To my understanding, this is strange : I expect all the periferal devices' state is preserved from the U-boot set values.

I added a LED blinking code, to the init_machine() /alias of am335x_evm_init() from the SK support code/ , and using oscilloscope found that GPIO state changes some ~40 milliseconds *BEFORE* the init_machine() is entered.

I want to find out why is it happening but no LED blinking (GPIO conrol) code works there, in the code above init_machine() /maybe pinmuxing is destroyed?/, nor a printk() helps because it is asynchronous: printout goes to the memory, not to the UART, and therefore I cannot trace that 40ms interval. Not even a mdelay()/udelay() methods seem to be functional in certain places of the kernel init code.

So, please kindly share your ideas/knowledge on how to get a bit of information, synchronously (anything better than memory printing with the printk), for hardware debug, from the code executed in the main.c at kernel_init() and around, before the board is initialized, and after the decompress_kernel() / kernel start.

Thanks.

discrepancy between Starter Kit schematics and Starter Kit JTAG connector installation guide

Hi,

There is a discrepancy between the instructions that appear on http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Starter_kit_jtag and between the schematics of the Starter Kit, as they appear on http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335x_StarterKit_Board_Design_Files

E.g. Step 2 in the jtag page states: "Solder the connector to J12". However, there is no J12 connector in the schematics

Another example is step 3 which states: "Remove resistors R75,....". However, there is no resistor R75 in the schematics

Could you please correct the guide, or the schematics, because we are now designing a board and would like to check if our debugger works with the starter kit.

Thanks

We are trying to replace an older ARM920T SOC processor that has gone EOL with the AM3352. It appears we will be able to emulate all functionallity of the old part with the AM3352 except for the USB. The older part USB interface was OHCI 1.0 and the design has the pull-up/pull-down resistors integrated into EMI/RFI filters on a seperate motherboard(s) on which the processor card attaches. One port supports FS/LS downstream and the other is FS upstream. Upstream enumeration control is handled by GPIO.

HS operation is not required.

Would it be possible to over-ride the USB 2.0 UTMI interface to the PHY by using UTMI_INTERFACE_CTRL_2 register bits 16-13 to disable the pull-up/pull-down resistors at the PHY and still have the interfaces operational?

I don't know what else to test, or what else to try. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm using AM3359 with StarterWare library and managed to use McASP with DMA across Audio FIFO.

My question is what is the correct way to handle data underflow error? The reference manual says reset McASP but does not mention how to do that.

Is it enough to reset the TX side or the RX part must be reset too?
How can this reset be achieved? With the Global Control Register? I have tried that, wrote 0 to that register, re-initialize the McASP periphery but that does not help.
Should I use the Power, Reset and Clock Management (PRCM) module?

My goal is to recognize the underflow error and handle it without bother the receive side.
Is this possible?

With new custom hardware in my hand built on AM3352 ZCZ (G1), TPS65910A3A1, DDR3 MT41K128M16JT, NAND MT29F2G08ABAEA, I am looking for the best way to get the u-boot and linux kernel to be ported.

I have downloaded and installed the Sitara Linux SDK (AM335x EVM SDK, ti-sdk-am335x-evm-05.07.00.00-Linux-x86-Install) from http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/am_bu/sdk/AM335xSDK/latest/index_FDS.html.

I have somewhat read stuff like

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzESOSf028mLTjlPYmVJTUlTODA/edit?pli=1

http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Sitara_Linux_Training:_uboot_linux_debug_with_ccsv5

http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Sitara_Linux_Training:_UBoot_Board_Port

but this task, which actually should not be that complicated, tends to consume a lot of time.

One question: Looking at the stuff (one package please see above, have not yet downloaded the CCS) I have downloaded and installed on my Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, do I need some more source/.h-files/config-files which are shipped with the TMDSSK3358 (and which I am currently not the possessor of) ? I am mainly thinking of getting as much of pre-made stuff regarding the TPS65910 and the DDR3, which my board has in common with the SK.

If so, which arc should I use?

If not, where can I find more to download/install?

Thanks

CM3 Firmware to substitute SRAM assembly for PowerManagement

Hi everyone,

pulling arago cm3 git repository I discovered the existence of the next2 branch.

It contains a very useful feature like DDR powerdown which was extremely complicated to control via sleep33xx.S

Considering that the board I'm working on uses LPDDR1 as RAM I can't try the feature "out of the box" so I started hacking both kernel and m3 firmware to obtain the same result as before but incredibly more mantainable.

At the moment I removed anything from sleep33xx.S except wfi instruction and handled the extra parameter passage to CM3 in pm33xx.c but the board doesn't wake up.

Reading commits it appears that exist some kernel build with all the new infrastructure working, not yet publicly released.

Is it possible to obtain a preview of such patches to start hacking on?

Thank you so much

Reading in the AM335x documentation regarding booting from NAND, the boot will use 16bit BCH ECC.

However, there is no support in either NAND Flash Tool or nandlib to turn on BCH 16bit. I am currently trying to add this, but are having trouble to set up everything correctly.

For example, the NAND Page Mapping documentation talks about eccsize1 and eccsize0 being nibbles, but the register GPMC_ECC_SIZE_CONFIG states bytes.

Also, the spare mapping expected by the NAND boot loader is hard to match with the described page mappings found under GPMC documentation (2 bytes + ECC sector 0 + ECC sector 1...ECC sector 8)

I have done a hw design with two ethernet (mii) ports using one Micrel 8051MNL PHY for each port. The problem is that I cannot get the second port to work, and I don't understand why not.

I'm using ti-sdk-am335c-evm-05.06.00.00, where I have modified the board-am335xevm.c to my hardware.

The first port works as intended, both in dual mac mode and in switch mode. The phy of the second port works as it should (afaict); link up/down works, and the LED's indicate traffic on the line, but there's no communications coming out, or going into the ip-stack from that interface RX counter is 0. I.e. if I connect the second port to an empty switch, the LED's will not blink if I try to ping out. And if I connect it onto a busy network, RX packet counter remains at 0.

When in dual MAC mode, I can do ifconfig up on both interfaces, so the kernel thinks all is well. And like I said, Plugging/unplugging cable works fine on both interfaces.

I have double checked my hardware and board routing, and cannot see anything strange. Track lenght has been dealt with, and trace impedance as well.

My suspicion is that I have misunderstood something about the pin-mapping for this device. Or are there any general constraints using mii on both ports? I guess this is my main question.

static struct pinmux_config mii2_pin_mux[] = {
{"gpmc_wpn.mii2_rxerr", OMAP_MUX_MODE1 | AM33XX_PIN_INPUT_PULLDOWN},
{"gpmc_a0.mii2_txen", OMAP_MUX_MODE1 | AM33XX_PIN_OUTPUT},
{"gpmc_a1.mii2_rxdv", OMAP_MUX_MODE1 | AM33XX_PIN_INPUT_PULLDOWN},
{"gpmc_a2.mii2_txd3", OMAP_MUX_MODE1 | AM33XX_PIN_OUTPUT},
{"gpmc_a3.mii2_txd2", OMAP_MUX_MODE1 | AM33XX_PIN_OUTPUT},
{"gpmc_a4.mii2_txd1", OMAP_MUX_MODE1 | AM33XX_PIN_OUTPUT},
{"gpmc_a5.mii2_txd0", OMAP_MUX_MODE1 | AM33XX_PIN_OUTPUT},
{"gpmc_a6.mii2_txclk", OMAP_MUX_MODE1 | AM33XX_PIN_INPUT_PULLDOWN},
{"gpmc_a7.mii2_rxclk", OMAP_MUX_MODE1 | AM33XX_PIN_INPUT_PULLDOWN},
{"gpmc_a8.mii2_rxd3", OMAP_MUX_MODE1 | AM33XX_PIN_INPUT_PULLDOWN},
{"gpmc_a9.mii2_rxd2", OMAP_MUX_MODE1 | AM33XX_PIN_INPUT_PULLDOWN},
{"gpmc_a10.mii2_rxd1", OMAP_MUX_MODE1 | AM33XX_PIN_INPUT_PULLDOWN},
{"gpmc_a11.mii2_rxd0", OMAP_MUX_MODE1 | AM33XX_PIN_INPUT_PULLDOWN},
{NULL, 0},
};

I'm getting a kernel crash with non-linefetch error in ti_tscadc.c:

[ 1.548095] Unhandled fault: external abort on non-linefetch (0x1028) at 0xf9e0d054

It happens every time I'm trying to do this:

tscadc_readl(ts_dev, TSCADC_REG_SE);

or this:

tscadc_readl(ts_dev, TSCADC_REG_FIFO1) & 0xFFF;

Basically if I'm trying to read ADC registers then I'm getting the error.

In this thread: http://e2e.ti.com/support/arm/sitara_arm/f/791/p/158103/928768.aspx#928768 it seems to suggest that I need to enabled ADC in PRCM module. Having read the relevant sections in SPRUH73G.pdf (the technical reference manual) I now know that it's probably the OCP clock that I haven't enabled.

Can anyone please suggest how to enable it? Where is the PRCM module and how to enable ADC in it?

Thanks.

AM3358 Suspend resume support

Hi,

I am using AM3358 EVM board able to boot with TI SDK 3.2 kerne and suspend/resume feature works fine. But we have ported the AM3358 machine to Custom kernel version 2.6.35 which is also booting and working fine.

Currently we tried to test the suspend/resume support in the custom kernel which is not resuming after suspend. We are able to suspend/resume through GPIO0 when TI emulator is connected to arm-cortex-A8 core.Without connecting the emulator target is not resuming from the suspend state.

We further debug by connecting M3_wakupss core through emulator. We observed below error.

1.After bootup, once we give suspend (echo mem > /sys/power/state) and we stopped the M3 core ,checked the register info list in CCS.Found there is a exception number in the register xPSR.Since R0,R1 registers shows the address 0x44E000E0 we suspects the there is
