TI-RTOS support on AM335x processors

Dear Vasili,

actually this is vice versa... Sys/Bios tries to be hardware independent as possible. Where needed it implements appropriate device support (e.g. base timers, IRQ,...).

However Sys/Bios does not ship with a full set of peripheral drivers for the hardware platforms it supports. Drivers have to come in addition. When we package Sys/Bios with a set of drivers for a certain platform we then call this TI-RTOS nowadays (I believe..).

I will let someone else comment on the possible availability of a complete TI-RTOS implementation for AM335x. If you are just looking for a lean kernel you can go ahead and download latest Sys/Bios. This has base support for Cortex-A8 and works on AM335x. We also use this as the OS for Industrial SDK which supports ICE and IDK platforms. There you can find more info...

Unfortunately, just SYS/BIOS isn't enough for our needs. We need TCP/IP and maybe USB and file-system support in the future.

We too are going to be looking hard at the AM335x for an upcoming product and are very interested in TIRTOS for that silicon.  I am seeing conflicting reports for TIRTOS becoming available for the AM335x , on this very forum another post shows that TI is not planning on developing TIRTOS at all for the AM335x

The last infomation I have is that we are planning to support TI RTOS for IDK by the end of 2Q. I will close the loop with Nick about the other post.

yes, we'll be migrating the Industrial SDK to TI-RTOS soon. This'll be on IDK and ICE platforms and the initial focus will be on Industrial comms use cases.

Wouldn't be possible to have at least a beta version of TI-RTOS for Sitara?
How can we plan software development for our new Sitara-based board if we do not know some firm date?
Must we go on losing time in trying to assemble third party examples about tcp stack and file system for SD Cards?

I understand your situation and I personally checked with the business manager that is driving this effort and we are not anticipating any release date. I will keep track of this post and as soon as we have either a beta version or a release date, I will, for sure, let you know.

Sorry for late reply.

The current IDK is based on the SysBIOS real-time kernel.  That same kernel will be the basis for a future TI-RTOS to be released in 1Q14.  Customers can get started today on SysBIOS and should then be able to migrate if they wish to the TI-RTOS release in 1Q14

I would like to know if there is any information on the drivers that will be supported
by the TI-RTOS for the AM335x. Will it be starterWare based?
It seems the current TI-RTOS drivers are built on top of MWare/MSP430Ware/TivaWare
so we would expect StarterWare in case of AM335x.

So, we give up hope to have TI_RTOS in 1Q14 for Sitara?

Our intention is the see how we can help you.

We need TCP/IP stack.

Now we are using lwIP, but we hope to use TI-RTOS    with its own tcp stack.

Some months ago TI announced that release of TI-RTOS for AM335x planned for Q3-2013 had been delayed to Q1-2014; how can you say that there is no planned date?

Is it possible to have ONE AND ONLY ONE official answer from TI about TI-RTOS for AM335x?

You can start with the drivers from StarterWare for Ethernet and then adapt them to work with the NDK.  The following forum post has some suggestions:

thank you for your historical research into the forum, but gathering several pieces of code from here and there and mixing them into something which would be neither TI's nor mine is exactly what I DON'T WANT to do.
I'm ready to make some porting to my specific Sitara-based card, of course; but I'm not ready for what you are suggesting us to do (a very old suggestion, indeed).

Anyway, I'm still waiting for the ONE AND ONLY ONE official answer from TI about TI-RTOS for AM335x.

I am sorry for asking the same question.
Even our customer project needs SD Card,TCP/IP etc to run on SYS/BIOS.

But from past one month we are trying to port the Starterware drivers on SYS/BIOS
but without success. We get too many SYS/BIOS related erros and not able to build a working code.

As we are running out of time, it would be helpful if we could get the
AM335x based TI RTOS as early as possible(like beta version).

We agree with Prad's list.
Recently we have taken a look at NDK and the latest am335x_sysbios_ind_sdk_1_1_0_3 and think developers are very near the goal; the same seems to be true for SD card and FAT file system.
The first step for Ethernet should be handling two distinct ports; then, in the future, handling of CPSW as an Ethernet switch would be welcome.

i want to use TI-RTOS and Sitara AM335x with the IAR toolchain.
Is meanwhile TI_RTOS or at least SYS/BIOS supported for AM335x with IAR ??

-- In the tirtos.mak in the tirtos_sitara_2_00_01_23 folder is no possibility to choose IAR . . . .
