am335x ethernet error

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65910, DA8XX

Hi,
I am debugging my board and meeting a problem.

There is a GSM module on my board. When power on ,the ethernet wired is normal,
but if I reboot the linux system or warm start (press reset key) the wired ethernet is
wrong. I can't ping other device through wired ethernet.
When I remove the module from my board ,and repeat the steps above, everything is normal.
My system logs when wired ehernet  error as follows,Please help me to analyze.

  Thank you very much.

Thank you .

  • It seems to me that the GSM mounting overwrites your eth0 setting. Have you tried to manually start wired Ethernet after the GSM is mounted?

  • Hi Biser,

        Thank you for your reply.

But how to manually start wired Ethernet.

I tried excute "/etc/init.d/networking restart",but the wired ethernet also error, and logs as follows:

             root@am335x-evm:~# /etc/init.d/networking  restart
Reconfiguring network interfaces... ifdown: interface eth0 not configured
             udhcpc (v1.20.2) started
              Sending discover...
               Sending discover...
               Sending discover...
              No lease, failing
              done.

The previous test ,I remove the file /etc/rcS.d/S40networking ,the eth0 will be configured in my APP.

If I restore this  file, the booting logs printed follows:

       Configuring network interfaces... [   12.258789] cdc_ether 2-1:2.0: eth0: CDC: unexpected notification 01!
        udhcpc (v1.20.2) started
        Sending discover...
          Sending discover...
         Sending discover...
         No lease, failing
         done.

when system startup, I test eth0 ,but I got the same result.

    Thank you.

    Best  Regards,

    liu

  • Please provide output from following commands:

    ip addr

    lsusb

As far as I can see you have a CDC modem, that also creates an ethx interface, that makes trouble, if this modem gets registered before am335x Ethernet. Perhaps you need to blacklist your modem or create udev rule to assign CPSW another name, like cpsw_eth0.

Nevertheless I'd like to know, which modem do you have. If it is E371, there is corresponding patch http://www.spinics.net/lists/netdev/msg277726.html

  • Thank you.

I excute the two commands in two different ways: power on and reboot. And there is no config network in booting script .

I use huawei WCDMA module named MU609. Can I use the same patch?

If I don't want to blacklist my modem, how to create udev rule to assign CPSW another name?

    thank you again.

    Best Regards,

    liu.

  • Please provide output from "ethtool -i eth0" for the first and for the second boot.

I wonder, why the first "ip addr" shows nothing and why do you see only "lo" for the second boot?

You don't need to blacklist your modem, I've searched for your modem and it should use CDC driver.

As for udev rules see this tutorial.

  • Hi,

     Thank you.

"ip addr" shows nothing because I disable the networking script in /etc/init.d/ .Every time I start network manual。

So the first time "ip add " shows nothing is no matter.

the "ethtool -i eth0" shows as follows:

    1.first power on:

    root@am335x-evm:/etc# ethtool -i eth0
    driver: TI CPSW Driver v1.0
    version: 1.0
    firmware-version:
    bus-info: cpsw
    supports-statistics: no
    supports-test: no
    supports-eeprom-access: no
    supports-register-dump: no
    supports-priv-flags: no
    root@am335x-evm:/etc#

    the second boot :

    root@am335x-evm:~# ethtool -i eth0
    driver: cdc_ether
    version: 22-Aug-2005
    firmware-version: CDC Ethernet Device
    bus-info: usb-musb-hdrc.1-1
    supports-statistics: no
    supports-test: no
    supports-eeprom-access: no
    supports-register-dump: no
    supports-priv-flags: no
    root@am335x-evm:~#

    Thank you very much.

    Best Regards,

    liu.

  • Is there anybody can help me?

    Thank you.
