AM335X with Wifi Module WL18xx

Hello,

We are working on project, planning to use Sitara Processor AM335X with Wifi WL18XX for wireless data transfer(online video streaming full HD 1080p) from high speed SD Card (Read/write speed up to 90-100 Mbps).

In this case,Wifi module (datatransfer rate up to 100Mbps) is interfaced on SDIO of AMS335x (up to 48MHz or 96Mbps datarate) & SD Card interfaced on MMC of AMS335x (up to 48MHz or 96Mbps datarate)

So,Our query - Practically Can we achieve the speed up to 60-70 Mbps from AM335x to SD Card and viceversa.Also,maintain the same speed for online video streaming using Wifi 18xx Module as generally speed is depend on Host device?

Hi Ritul,

Please check section 18.1.1 of the AM335X TRM Rev. K. 48MByte/sec is the maximum throughput supported in MMC mode 8-bit data transfer, 24MByte/sec in High-Speed SD mode 4-bit data transfer. The current Linux MMC drivers support only 4-bit mode.

Kindly suggest us any another option is available which is support for 48MByte/sec max. throughput in MMC mode 8 bit data transfer .

The current state of AM335X is as posted above. I think there is work being done on a 8-bit MMC driver, but I don't have any information if/when this will be available. Currently Am335X cannot provide 48MByte/sec throughput on MMC ports.

Hello Biser,

I missed one query regarding Wifi Module WL18xx.

As mentioned earlier,We need to stream online video (Full HD 1080p) over Wifi using Module WL18xx (as mentioned in link :- data transfer rate up to 100 Mbps) which is interfaced on SDIO of AMS335x.

Can we practically achieve the speed up to 60-70 Mbps with WL18xx module?

Hello,

We have one query regarding eMMC. We want to interface eMMC having size of 64GB or 128GB with Sitara Processor AMS335x.

Hi Ritul,

Is this gigabits or gigabyes? If this are gigabyted, I don't have information whether these large size eMMC have ever been tested on AM335X. For reference design check the Beaglebone Black schematics: http://elinux.org/Beagleboard:BeagleBoneBlack#Hardware_Files

Generally there is no restriction, because these are block devices.
