AM335x Custom Board + WL12XX driver

Hi,

I have a custom board based on Beaglebone(white). We wish to use WL12xx driver which I know is not device tree compatible so I need to use an older kernel and u-boot.

Can somebody please give me an idea of the best u-boot/kernel configurations to start with as I am having trouble finding the right combination. (am335x_evm does not load at all).

Is there even a board-file.c type kernel for beaglebone white?

Hi Nigel,

Before EZSDK 7.0 there was no complete support of the Beaglebone boards on TI distributed SDKs. You can go for EZSDK 6.0, which is kernel v3.2 but you will need to do some work on it to run on a Beaglebone platform. Just take a recent kernel 3.16 for example and tweak arch/arm/mach-omap2/pdata-quirks.c Take am335x-evmsk as example. Take a look at am335x-evmsk device tree file to see, how WLAN is configured.

I thought that WL12xx drivers do not sup[port Device Tree? Or is this fixed in Kernel 3.16?

They don't support DT directly, that's why pdata-quirks.c was introduced. It passes needed platform data to the wl12xx driver, so it knows the IRQ, frequency etc. Just look at dts and pdata-quirks.c and you'll understand, what's going on.

Hi,

Another question. I took the kernel from the link you gave for pdata-quirks.c and checked out branch 3.16

There doesn't seem to be a defconfig file for am335x-evmsk anywhere?

Just invoke

make omap2plus_defconfig

and then

make menuconfig

and check, what drivers are missing and activate them. Due to DT concept, you don't need to specify your particular board/CPU.
