AM3359 Industrial Com Engine - Debug Connection Problems

Hi,

I am trying to connect and run on an ICE V2 and having connection problems. I have set up Target config file for the XDS100V2USB connection and am connecting to just the A8 and using the V2 GEL file from the SDK. Most of the time when I connect I get Error -1266 which is "Device is held in Reset".

The problem occurs most of the time but I've had 30 minutes of debugging where worked ok,loaded ran and breakpoints just as it should and then it stopped working for no particular reason.

I have also exactly followed the "Launching and Debugging Application in CCS" in the Getting Started guide and had the same problem.

Note: This is all done in Windows 7 and CCS5.5.

Much experimentation found that if you DON'T load the M3 on the board the Reset problem stops. Also to get the program to load and stop at main we have found you move the boot jumper so the EtherCAT demo does not run and push the reset button before going to debug it works.

Another machine running CCS does not have this issue and seems to work even loading the M3 so color us confused.

Upon device reset the M3 wakeup core in a AM335x device is held in reset, and needs a register to be written by the Cortex A8 core to release the M3 wakeup core from reset.It is possible to do this with a GEL script - see Initializing Devices Where One Target is Held in Reset by Another

To avoid the need to perform a manual reset, try configuring a System Reset before loading the program to at least get the EVMAM3358 into a known reset state - see http://e2e.ti.com/support/development_tools/code_composer_studio/f/81/t/317266.aspx for details.
