[Sitara Processor] USB Type-C connector

Hi community member,

Please let me confirm my understanding of USB connector.

[My understanding]
If would like to use the Type-C connector for their application, Sitara processor will be able to support by adjusting the Sitara's pins to "Type C" connector pin mapping.

Is my understanding correct?

Hi,

Sitara devices suport up to two USB 2.0 High-Speed OTG Ports with Integrated PHY.
If you like to see which one is mapped on the Mini USB (debug uart) port and which one is mapped on the USB port you can check the reference desings:
Beaglebone: beagleboard.org/.../BONE_SCH.pdf
Beaglebone Black: github.com/.../BBB_SCH.pdf
StarterKit: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../AM335x_StarterKit_Board_Design_Files
AM335x EVM: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../AM335x_General_Purpose_EVM_Board_Design_Files

So yes, Sitara would support all usb devices that are compliant with the USB 2.0 spec.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.. I've edited my previous post.

Refernce boards DO NOT have type C connector.
USB (tupe C) ports are different. For Sitara processors you would need a companion chip in your design to support the type C connector functions.

Thank you for your post.
I understood that the board which you have introduced in previous post does not have the Type-C connector.
Thus, if we need to use the tyep-c connector for Sitara processor, we can support it by adjusting the Sitara's pins to "Type C" connector pin mapping.
Is my understanding correct?

Hi Kaka,

AM335x device itself does not support the type C connector (usb 3.1 standard). I am not sure that simply adjusting the sitara pins to Type C, using methods as described here: www.synopsys.com/.../dwtb-convert-usb-design-type-c-2015q1.aspx will work for you. As you can see in the section Converting USB2.0 OTG SoCs to USB Type C says that it is not practical to convert existing OTG SoCs. Maybe someone else could elaborate here.

Thank you for your advice.
I understood that AM335x does not support USB3.0 and 3.1 specification. We would like to know whether can use the type-c connector without any converter device.
I found the application example of using type-C connector with USB2.0.
