AM335x Starter kit with I2c

Hello,

I'm a totally newbie on the I2c. I have a AM335x startkit and just trying to play around with the I2c configuration. I have login into the board and try to run the i2cdetect -y 1 but i got an error message.

root@am335x-evm:~# i2cdetect -y 1
Error: Can't use SMBus Quick Write command on this bus

I have connect a device on the I2C J8 (on the bottom of the board). haven't change any settings on the kernel yet. Any advice how do i kick off this I2c?
