TMDSDSC3359 data concentrator

Hi ,

Greetings!

I have some issues with the Data Concentrator EVM(TMDSDC3359). The OS from the SD card is not booting.

I have configured all the settings as mentioned in the Quick Start Guide.

I am not familiar with the step 5. It says Connect the Ethernet cable to the RJ-45 jack on the board. It didn’t mention where the other end has to be connected, but I connected it to the PC.

I have attached the Quick Start Guide that I received with the equipment and the screen shots of the computer display when I connect it to the PC.

When I connected it to the PC running Linux OS, two folders popped up.

I am confused with which one to proceed with. Can you kindly help me with starting up the Data Concentrator?

1. Should I download and install SDK 6.00 software package and follow the instruction given in thehttp://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Smart_Data_Concentrator_EVM_(TMDSDC3359)_Software_Manual

2. If so, which is the best platform for the Data Concentrator to start with ? is it Linux running PC or setting up Linux in windows using the VMware player?

3. Can you provide additional document for starting the Data Concentrator ?

Did you open a terminal program, like Teraterm on COM3?

Hi Biser,

No, I didn't open it.
I configured the ports i.e COM-3 as mentioned in the QSG.
Can you kindly brief it?
I am new to this product.

You need a serial terminal program to communicate with the board. Older Windows versions had HyperTerminal, but Windows 7 doesn't have it. You can download TeraTerm from Internet, it's a free program.

Hi Biser,

I downloaded the tera term and changed the settings as mentioned in the QSG.

Please see the attached picture for your reference. but still i couldn't start up the Data Concentrator.

Do i need to save the setup in particular folder path ?

Click OK and close the setup window. Then restart the board. You should see a stream of boot messages.

Hi Biser,

I restarted the board but still couldn't see any boot messages.

What about the RJ-45 jack one end i connected it to the board and other end should i connect it to the computer?

Is the SD card inserted? Are the DIP switch setting of your board correct? For the moment disconnect all other connections from the board, leaving only the serial cable.

Hi Biser,

I could see the window. After logging in it asks to check the START HERE FILES for more info. I couldn't find any START HERE FILES in the Windows PC. The same Data Concentrator when I connected it to the Ubuntu PC, I could see all the files. Which platform do you suggest me for further demos Windows PC/ Ubuntu PC?

For the ti-sdk-am335x-evm-08.00.00.00-Linux-x86-Install installation, can I have some reference document ? How to install it?

A Linux PC is the correct machine to use for Linux development. As for documentation, check on the download site: http://software-dl.ti.com/sitara_linux/esd/processor-sdk/PROCESSOR-SDK-LINUX-AM335X/latest/index_FDS.html

Hello Sir,

I downloaded the ti-sdk-am335x-evm-08.00.00.00-Linux-x86-Install from the above website. I need to install. Kindly help me with it.

I tried the following:

1. sudo ./ti-sdk-am335x-evm-08.00.00.00-Linux-x86-Install --> it didn't work ( tried it in Ubuntu PC)

2. double click on it no response.

I saw a Smart Data Concentration Evaluation Module Demonstartion Video online(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iHxUHzZXSg).

I am little confused how to proceed further,. Kindly help me.

Note: FYI, I am building a system which uses smart meter, PLC kit and Data Concentrator. The values from the smart meter are transferred to the Data

Concentrator thru the Power Line Communication.

What are the permissions of the binary?

Maybe you need to run:
chmod 777 ti-sdk-am335x-evm-08.00.00.00-Linux-x86-Install.bin
./ti-sdk-am335x-evm-08.00.00.00-Linux-x86-Install
