Is it possible to expand the AM4377 FLASH memory beyond 512MByte? Possibly to 1GByte or 2 GBytes.

Hi,

For NAND or eMMC there is no size restriction. If NOR (or any memory with other parallel addressing) is used, the restriction applies.

Hi, thanks for the quick response.

I thought I had thoroughly read the user manual. Obviously not. There was as section about memory. I was sure that it included NAND FLASH in the addressing limitation of 256MBytes..

Sorry to be a pain. Can you point me to the page or the section of the user manual that clearly states that there is no limit on NAND FLASH address space. Thanks for your help. We are designing the AM437x device into a new product, and I need to ensure that we can use a larger space than 256MBytes in future.

Hi Steve,

NAND Flash is not a memory-mapped device. It's addressed via commands through the 8 or 16 bit data interface. You can open any NAND datasheet to see how transactions work. I confirm that there are no size restrictions for NAND. For AM437X you should read section 5.2.6.4 from the AM437X TRM Rev. D. It gives important information about booting from NAND.

Thanks so much for your answer. Yes, I was aware of the structure of NAND FLASH, but I was confused by the data at the beginning of the section on memory, which to me did not make sense. Thanks for clearing that up. Much appreciated.
