TMDSCM572X: Camera module issue

Part Number: TMDSCM572X
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5728

Hi,

The Ti AM5728 EVM camera module sometimes is detected:

/ # ls /dev/video*
/dev/video0 /dev/video1 /dev/video10
/ #

and sometimes not:

/ # ls /dev/video*
/dev/video0  /dev/video10
/ #

In fact we asked if it was a hardware or software problem. In one of this case what is the solution ?

Also I'm informing you that the items are new (about 5 days).

Best regards,

  • Hi,

Which Linux version are you using? Which EVM board?
  • EVM: Ti AM5728 EVM (From Texas Instrument)
    Kernel: 4.1.18
  • Hi,

Please do share the dmesg for both the cases to see what is happening.
  • This SDK is quite old. Please try with the latest one: software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html
  • Hello Biser,

I tried with the latest one and i have always the same issue with  the Ti AM5728 EVM camera module.

    BR :)
    Faiez

  • I have notified the software team. They will respond here.
  • Hello Dwarakesh,

For this issue, i want to know the linux command to do that (dmesg).
    Thank you,

    BR :)
    Faiez

  • Hello Dwarakesh,

    EVM: Ti 5728 evm
    Kernel: 4.4.41

The Ti AM5728 evm camera module is not detected with the latest kernel:

    root@am57xx-evm:~# ls /dev/video*

    /dev/video0 /dev/video10 /dev/video11
    root@am57xx-evm:~#

I tried to do the "dmesg" command and i have this result. (The result is given by the attachment file .txt)
    Thank you,

  • Hi Faiez,

Send dmesg log, when you don't see video1 and when you see video1. Hope you are connecting Camera module in the slot provided "Camera Board Connection". I dont have the Camera Module with my AM572x and hence asking for both the logs to help out to see if any error. Also the output of below command in both the cases.
    # v4l2-ctl --list-devices
  • I suggest two things - to check if the camera board is mounted properly on the EVM. Second, to migrate to latest PLSDK. Older driver had race condition related bug because of which the camera module wasn't getting detected always.

  • Oh I see that you have already tried kernel version 4.4. In that case I suggest to check if camera board is secured to the EVM properly with screws.
  • We have seen similar cases where the camera assembly connector is not properly seated in the mating connector on the camera module.

    Regards,
    Paul
  • if you have reason to believe that the Camera Board is not working from the beginning, please work with your supplier (Distributor or our TI Store if you bought the board via our TI Store) to start a RMA process (replacing the defective board).
