AM4378: SD card detection

Hi,

My customer uses AM4378. OS is Linux. And they use TI processor's SDK.

They are facing one issue "no SD card detection".

Currently, there are hardware that does not recognize the SD card when starting AM 437x.
They want to separate it is hard issur or software issue.

Kernel settings, point to analyze with device driver, etc.
Could you teach it?

Incidentally, system configuration is the below.

Mmc0: bootSD (same as Am 437 x StarterKit)
Mmc 1: SD Slot
Mmc 2: SD Slot

The CD pin of each SD slot is connected to GPIO,

At the H / L level of the GPIO, although the card can be detected, normally the following log should be displayed,
When the phenomenon occurs, the log is not displayed.

[1.870185] mmcblk 1: mmc 2: e 624 SU 08 G 7.40 Gi B

Which Linux version is this? Please post the device tree settings and complete log file.

Linux SDK version is 2.00.00.
Regarding device tree settings and complete log file, I don't have it. So I will ask it to my customer.

I received device tree setting and log files from customer. I attached these files here. Regarding log file, there are three pattern errors.

Hi,

Your dts file looks correct.. Can you try with another SD card from another vendor? I remember early AM437x designs had problems with some sd cards.

2) Is there any relative of my customer's issue?
3) Do you know the manufacture name and product number of SD cards that had problems.

Hi Michi,

I had a problem with a very initial board revision (don't remember the exact revision). Using different SD card worked for me, that is why I suggested testing it.

I found one TI wiki site. It is "Linux core MMC/SD User's Guide".

processors.wiki.ti.com/.../SD_User's_Guide

There are written in some tested SD cards by TI in the above wiki.
But I think these information can't be used for AM437x. Because AM57xx and DRA7xx were used for testing SD cards. As to my understanding, AM437x and AM57xx is the different SD controller. Is my understanding right?

Hi,

I think the mmc controller is the same, you can confirm this by checking the Revision register: MMCHS_HL_REV in AM572x and SD_REV in AM437x.

I checked the both SD revision register of AM437x and AM572x.

AM437x : SD_REV register's value = 0x3101 0000 - - - - - - - Vendor revision 3.1 , SD Host specification version 1.1

AM572x : MMCHS_HL_REV register's value = 0x4020 0303 : There is not the description of this register in AM572x TRM.

If the bit field of MMCHS_HL_REV register is the same as the bit field of SD_REV register, the vendor version and SD spec version of AM572x are different from AM437x.

Do you know MMCHS_HL_REV register's description?
